I DREW SO MANY FACES!!!

Most of my freelance illustration projects include illustrating for merchandise, packaging or illustration branding, etc. However, a few days back I received a request from a lovely client from Goa to draw a couple of portraits. She mentioned that she wanted to print these portraits out on cards that would be gifted to people, so I suggested getting them printed myself because I wanted the end product to be as perfect as the artworks themselves and she felt the same.

I then set out to illustrate around 10 portraits and since I haven't done something like this before for a client, I wanted to add my own touch to the usual portrait look. So, it was while colouring the portraits that I started having so much fun experimenting with technique and colour and the end product was something that I was quite happy with. :)

I then set out to the printers and got these colourful faces printed onto a paper of my choice (because I am OCD about paper like that) and saw that they were perfectly cut and creased into these pretty little cards.

To my excitement, I bagged another portrait project immediately after through the same client. Her friend wanted a portrait that would be gifted to someone as a birthday gift. This is what I made for him.

This portrait was also delivered to the client after I got it printed and framed so that he could gift it to his friend directly. This is what I made for the second client.

I am surprised as to how much fun I actually had with these projects because it was something different from what I usually do, and I hope I get many more of them. I hope everyone is having the most amazing week, I sure am. See you guys soon!! :)

THE DAY WE WERE STARED AT

If you are an artist / illustrator / photographer or even a model / actor, you know what it is like to attract the attention of passer-by's when you go out on the streets to draw / photograph / model. The good thing that comes out of this is sometimes, you strike an interesting conversation with a total stranger and you build a connection. That is what Neevan Noronha did today while myself and a bunch of lovely illustrator friends were out sketching on a Sunday in the beautiful, heritage streets of Fontainhas, Panjim, Goa. We hope to create a habit of this and anyone is welcome to join us. :)

Supriya Tirkey's rendition of the sights at Fontainhas.

Neevan Noronha illustrated one of the Fontainhas streets.

Rohit Karandadi illustrated a quaint little corner house.

I illustrated little bits of the sights around us.

Manuela Mendonca Gomes illustrated one of the majestic heritage houses in Fontainhas.

It was a wonderful day and I look forward to many such meet-up's. :)

#6daysofillustree ARTIST FEATURE

A month ago I started a little Instagram/Facebook challenge called the 6 Days of Illustree. I post a Topic of the week every Sunday on my Facebook page and from Monday to Saturday, myself and many other lovely artists post a drawing everyday / thrice a week / once a week on our social media pages with the hashtag #6daysofillustree.

Drawing and posting an illustration on a regular basis is quite a feat, ( I know now ) and hence I wanted to feature some of the amazing artists who contributed to this little project of mine. Here are 8 artists who made some amazing art based on the topics of the weeks and I hope many more of you feel inspired to join us. :)

THE TIME I HAD A PRODUCTIVE MONTH

.

I've been trying to stick to posting only on Wednesdays, but here I am, posting on a Friday. Damn procrastination, no more excuses. Am I the only one who suffers from this "disease"? If you do too
please comment below and make me feel a tad better about myself!

So, this month, February, was actually like my January, It felt like my kickstart to this awesome year, since I was travelling in Jan and in the holiday mood. February brought together so many wonderful things while I also enjoyed the last days of pleasant weather before these humid summer days began. If it's hot now, I can't imagine what May will be like.

Now I'll get to my February favourites. I know about the typo in the artwork, but I'll just use "Favorites" - is the preferred spelling in the US, as an excuse. But I am in India, I know, Haha. I'm loving experimenting with watercolours, can't wait to use them more. Here goes!

1)My parents have been going for a morning walk almost daily since the past three years, and since I am not a morning person I never really managed to get out with them and see what they really do.
This month, I broke my life long habit of sleeping in and woke up and went for that morning walk. I won't say I managed to go every single day but the fact that I did at least four times a week is an achievement. Though I won't pat myself on the back just yet, I need to make this into a never ending habit.

2) The end of this month brought in the carnival in Goa. I did not go to see the carnival floats, though I loved to some years back, but it was just too hot. I did however attend the Samba Square festival three days in a row and made the most of the live music, food (mostly pizza) and drinks. I am quite a home body, so when I do go out and party, you know it is because I really love the atmosphere and vibe. I love Goan festivals, everyone is just so happy!!

3) So THIS was one of my favourite parts of this February! #6daysofillustree started out as a passion project for myself, where I selected a topic a week and made an illustration a day from Monday to Saturday, taking a Sunday break. Two weeks in, I asked people if they would like to join me and the response I got was amazing! I now post a new topic every Sunday at noon and me and some wonderful people draw on the chosen topic every week. If you haven't heard about this and like to draw, PLEASE JOIN! We support and inspire each other through this activity.

4) Participating in flea markets is one of the most fun things ever, because you get to meet new amazing people, who appreciate your art and give you the the most valuable feedback. I made so many new contacts this month, some of them artists themselves and I love discovering new artists and getting to know their work. ( If you are an artist and we haven't connected, feel free to give me a buzz on Facebook :) ) I participated in two flea markets this month, both of which were really amazing.

That's it for February. I just want to say, I've done these posts for two months since I started this blogging adventure and reflecting over the month that went by, celebrating it's highlights while illustrating and writing this post as well is so therapeutic, and makes me appreciate the good things in life even more. :) I felt the past month was super productive work wise and even with regards to my social life. I hope you enjoyed my post where I ramble about my life, and illustrate the highlights.

Stay tuned for more, please follow and share if you like my posts. I wish you lovelies a happy March! :)

MEET THE ARTIST!

Hi guys!

The internet sphere has been absolutely flowing with #meetthaartist posts lately, and me being an illustrator hadn't gotten to doing one such post. Since this blog is new I felt it would be apt to do this post now, so you'll can get to know me, a bit. So this is me, my version of a #meettheartist.

I wear jeans, a lot and I always, always carry around that little black studded sling bag (which is now falling apart) wherever I go and stuff in whatever I can including my bulky keys. That Hidesign wallet was a 21st birthday gift and I just can't part with it. I have this weird attachment to things and I tend to use them till they literally cannot be used anymore. Oh, and the rubber sandals, I have started using them a lot lately only because they do not wear out easily and I do not have to keep buying new ones. :D

Maybe I should talk a bit about my illustration style. Well, it varies a bit but I tend to always stick to a similar colour pallete and I LOVE indigo blue. I cannot express how much I love that colour and I cannot have an artwork devoid of it. Obsessed is the word. I also love playing with flat colours along with textures, I love how a texture can add so much to a particular artwork and just lift it up.

I hope you all are having the loveliest week, I sure am! Please tell me what you think of my posts, I would love some constructive feedback. Do stick around and until next time. :)

THAT AWKWARD FIRST POST

Hi guys!

This is that first blog post where I am not so sure about what I am doing but trying my best and putting some content out there.

I am Danica, a happy illustrator from lovely little Goa, India. As an Illustrator/Designer I go by the brand name #YetAnother by danica. After what turned into years of procrastination, I finally decided to start an illustration blog to document my art journey.

The past month has been quite a good one. I went for a week long holiday to Vietnam and Bangkok with my family to celebrate my parents 25th wedding anniversary, and once back I kickstarted some good projects.

These are my "January favourites". ( refer to the numbers in the illustration )

1) The Chicken Pho that me and my family had on the streets of Vietnam that was also part of the humongous breakfasts we had there daily.

2) I haven't picked up a novel for more than a year. That's a hell lot for a girl who was once a bookie. This month I read "FanGirl" by Rainbow Rowell to soothe my rom-com needs. I was so hooked I read the whole book in two days!

3) I have been searching for the perfect pair of sneakers for the LONGEST time. ( Goa has very minimal shopping options ) I first saw this light Grey pair in the Mumbai H&M but since I was going on the holiday I thought I might find something better. After the longest hunt I picked up the same one at the H&M in Bangkok because no other sneakers were as perfect as these.

4) I am a curly head and I am very particular about what goes on my hair. I came across "OGX Quenching Coconut Curls" in a drugstore and it had "sulfate free" written on it. I tried it out and my curls are now soft and healthy as ever, and I'm not sure if it's because of this product but my hairfall has drastically reduced. Best shampoo discovery!

5) Ahh cheese! I am that weirdo who says, "cheese is my chocolate". A relative brought me some German Baby Gouda from abroad and gahh! I savoured every single bite!

6)This one, I wont be forgetting for the rest of my life. Cruising in Ha Long bay, Vietnam with my family, on my parents wedding anniversary was a bucket list item! I have absolutely no words to describe that place. I never wanted to leave.

So those were my January favourites. Hope you enjoyed this first nervous post. Haha.

I will be posting weekly. Do stick around. I wish you a lovely week ahead. :)
